Blog Desert Archetype #2

A Deserted Sonnet

It Appears that we are bound to die soon
Has Mother Nature finally rebelled
Today all deaths are caused by big monsoons
All that challenge her are unparalleled

By tossing out into the sky our fume
Humanity has all but failed to see
That fear despair and gloom will soon consume
And put an end to all festivity

But still we have all but one chance to win
The heart the trust of the newborn children
So they can fix and start a new begin
For life must carry on with rebuilding

If man continues to walk around blind
He will eventually fall behind

This sonnet is meant to talk about the devastating effects that climate change has already brought to life and the even worse consequences to come. Because of climate change, many people have this preset idea of an inevitable apocalypse that will come and destroy human society as we know it today. However, despite all of this bad news that we are constantly bombarded, there's always this prevailing idea that maybe the upcoming generation can pave a new path for humanity and set back on track to coexist peacefully with nature once again. This is an optimistic point of view that many share but who is to say that the upcoming generation will listen to the claims of the older generations and learn from their mistakes. Or that maybe just maybe it is already too late.

  1. This poem brings to light a very real and scary problem that we are faced with today. Climate change has had and is expected to have disastrous consequences in regards to human life. I understand how the desert might relate to this phenomenon, but you might consider making the role that this archetype plays in climate change more obvious and central to the poem's purpose because most of the poem focuses on the effects of climate change as a whole, as opposed to this archetype.
